Congratulations to all who participated and completed the Lion Foundation Rotorua Marathon, or 5km or 10km Fun Run on Saturday 1 May 2010.
We had:
A wonderful turn out (nearly 2100 marathon entrants,
and close to 1000 Lion Foundation Fun Run entrants)
Great races with (L to R) Steven O’Callaghan, Tsutomu Saeki
and Dale Warrander battling for position for the overall men’s title,
with Dale achieving his fourth win, equal to Jack Foster’s record.

Seven pace groups assisted even more runners to cross over the finish line in their goal time
The 3h45m group are pictured here just a few seconds after their 3h45m
finishing time with pacer Kiri Price in Auckland's YMCA Marathon Club's
yellow uniform.
The Club, through Simon Clendon, coordinated and supplied many of the
pacers

A trial of a Mini-Marathon where 35 school children ran the last 2.195km of their marathon through the start line (with their own cannon start!), over a special course, and then across the finish line.
They’d done the previous 40ks over a period of time at school.
2011 will hopefully see this mini-marathon event introduced fully with the help of Sport Bay of Plenty and Events & Venues Rotorua. This works in well with Adopt a Runner that continued with the local schools and participants this year – thanks to all involved.

The Rotorua Marathon proves to be a hardy event that continues to draw experienced and fresh runners and walkers to its picturesque course.
In 2011 the marathon will be held for the 47th consecutive year, bringing all the wonderful historical elements such as the Friday Pasta Dinner, the Sunday Breakfast; the supportive and vocal locals out around the Lake whether at their own front gate or volunteering as part of a Drink Station ensuring you stay hydrated, or at the Energy Events Centre assisting to take off your timing chip, supplying your ASICS finishers shirt or hot tea, or cheerfully handing over the race number prior to it all beginning.
The Lion Foundation Rotorua Marathon – Saturday 30 April 2011 - 9am Start for Runners then Walkers The Start and Finish to the marathon are in the Government Gardens outside the Energy Events Centre, with the course heading out through Rotorua’s CBD, down Lake Rd, Fairy Springs Rd and around the traditional lake course (with undulating hills, long flats and a head wind ‘somewhere’), back into Town, through Princes Arch to run (or walk) those last 400m to the finish line. The marathon course is measured to IAAF Standards. Take it on! Remember – enter online for all events at all times and take $5 off your entry fee. If a registered athlete with a club affiliated to Athletics New Zealand you can take an additional $10 off the marathon entry fee if you enter before a mid march 2011 deadline (yet to be set).
You can also make a donation via FundraiseOnline as you enter, or raise funds for your particular cause whilst running or walking as an added incentive to get you over the line.
Athletics New Zealand and The Lion Foundation invite and encourage you to take part in the 2011 Lion Foundation Rotorua Marathon and 5km & 10km Fun Runs. Please join us to Take on the Lake!
