Take on the Lake!             Saturday 1 May 2010

ENTRY NOW OPEN!

'Adopt a Runner' Now Open (registrations close 3 March)

On Saturday 1 May 2010, New Zealand’s favourite and most run (or walked) marathon, the Lion Foundation Rotorua Marathon, along with the Lion Foundation 5km & 10km Fun Runs, will be held.

The Rotorua Marathon proves to be a hardy event that continues to draw experienced and fresh runners and walkers to its picturesque course. In 2010 the marathon will be held for the 46th consecutive year, bringing all the wonderful historical elements such as the Friday Pasta Dinner, the Sunday Breakfast; the supportive and vocal locals out around the Lake whether at their own front gate or volunteering as part of a Drink Station ensuring you stay hydrated, or at the Energy Events Centre assisting to take off your timing chip, supplying your ASICS finishers shirt or hot tea, or cheerfully handing over the race number prior to it all beginning.

4 Hour Pace Group 2009 We will also continue with a few of the elements introduced in the past couple of years:

The Haka which stirs you up at the start line

The exhibition of the Memorabilia Posters – created last year (thanks to funding from the Lion Foundation) to celebrate 45 years of the event, which will be shown annually with a new poster added each year

Pacers to help you take on the lake, guiding and motivating you to complete in the time you want

And First-Timers Seminars to give you the last minute advice following on from the training information on the website

And at last (but not least) inviting the new Survivors to the stage at Prize Giving to celebrate their 15 Rotorua Marathons.

The Lion Foundation Rotorua Marathon Weekend, based under the one roof at the Energy Events Centre, Government Gardens, offers:

The Friday Night Pasta Party, timed to give you the sustenance you need prior to the big day

The ASICS Sports Expo, on from noon Friday, all of Saturday, and Sunday morning – with very good buys and advice from our *experienced sporting sponsors and exhibitors

First-Timers Seminar, last minute and relevant advice from our Official Coach, Raymond Boardman

ASICS Apparel 2009
Fun Run Fairies 2009!

The Lion Foundation Rotorua Marathon, and 5km & 10km Fun Run events, started by the cry of the Haka and the roar of the cannon (9.00am Marathon, 9.15am Fun Runs)

The opportunity to wear fancy dress as you do the Lion Foundation Fun Run or Walk through the spectacular Government Gardens and around Sulphur Point, to be eligible for great spot prizes at the finish line

Pacing Groups: be spurred on by experienced Pacers who will help you reach your goal marathon time

The thrill of being a marathon finisher, having run or walked one complete circuit of Lake Rotorua (whether in 6 hours 30 minutes, or 2 hours 27 minutes), and receiving your well earned ASICS T-shirt as you cross the finish line

Inside the Energy Events Centre:
*The DUL-X Massage team
*Fantastic facilities (showers & café)
*And live footage of the finish line to watch on the Big Screens

Prize Giving on Saturday evening to celebrate the day’s or many year’s achievements

And the Sunday Breakfast - with the chance to look more leisurely at the results, buy that last ASICS tracksuit or muscle recovery remedy.
2009 Winner Scott Winton, with Steven O'Callaghan just 6 seconds behind

The Lion Foundation Rotorua Marathon – Saturday 1 May 2010 - 9am Start for Runners then Walkers
The Start and Finish to the marathon are in the Government Gardens outside the Energy Events Centre, with the course heading out through Rotorua’s CBD, down Lake Rd, Fairy Springs Rd and around the traditional lake course (with undulating hills, long flats and a head wind ‘somewhere’), back into Town, through Princes Arch to run (or walk) those last 400m to the finish line. The marathon course is measured to IAAF Standards.

Take it on!
